At this weeks swimming class I found out that it's part of next weeks class and not a separate event! So now I have to make DD a mermaid costume, me a pirate costume AND find sponsors! So far this year we have had nursery rhyme day, international day, monster day, red day, green day, red white and blue day and spotty day, and playground rumour is next week we have mr men day.
Thankfully the school normally manage a weeks notice, and I'm pretty crafty, but some parents struggle with it, and can end up spending a lot of money.
I got a letter about a sponsored swim that would be happening next week with the babies in fancy dress.
i wont even go in to the costume they gave me for his part as a wise man in the school nativity play, it was so old and knackered it disintergrated in the washing machine and i was up till two in the morning making a new one.
There is a great article in The Times today written by one mum who describes the stress and last minute panic of coming up with costumes and making models for school projects.
She writes about arriving at school with her daughter one morning to find that all the class were lined up to go into school dressed as Vikings.
And times that by the fact that we have 5Children and they give no leigh way for the fact that I'm disabled now and that we have a disabled child xx I love making costumes!
Our school is pretty good at giving notice for "dressing up" days, so it's not usually a problem, and I actually enjoy making things.
